INSTRUCTION OF APPLICATION OF THE LIQUID THERMAL INSULATION PROTERM WITH TEMPERATURE RANGE -60 TO +400 (600 IN SHORT TERM) BASE ON MICROSPHERES, RHEOLOGICAL AND ANTI-FUNGAL ADDITIVES

Liquid Thermal Insulation +400° (600*)°C

Application of Liquid thermal insulation : heating pipeline, gas pipeline, process product pipeline, metal chimney/smoke funnel, engine part, ship hull and ship devices/machines, flexible-metal roofing, steel structure.

The temperature range is from – 60C up to + 400C (+600°С- in short term), resistant to the mineral oil, oil-products, salts.

The coating has good adhesion to metal, concrete, reinforced concrete.

1. Surface preparation
Remove dirt, rust, dust, old paint, loose matter, etc. from the surface to be insulated. Metal must be free of fungus-like loose rust that will be detached from metal together with the coat once ProTerm is applied. Use wire brushes, sand disks or grinder to remove rust from metal surface; keep working on the loose rust until the metal shines. Treat the rust-free surface with rust solvent and let stay for 2 hours if required. New metal surfaces can require removal of conserving agents. The prepared surface must be dry (without condensate) and free from loose, oily or greasy matter, and should not be excessively plastic. It’s not allowed to apply Liquid Insulation on the previously painted surface.

2. Preparation of Insulating Coating
ProTerm is ready to use. Only ortoxylene should be added to achieve the necessary consistency.

While working with this product all fire safety regulations should be considered due to volatile highly inflammable solvents.

The product has to be stirred just prior to the application

It’s allowable the material can be spited after long storage

If drill is used, the maximum permissible agitating rate is 150-200 rpm. Faster speed will damage ceramic micro spheres and thermal conductivity effect will be lost. Use vertical travel of the blade to immerse the stiffened part into liquid, switch on the drill and start to rotate the blade slowly to mix the lumps with the liquid. Keep mixing until the product becomes cream-like. Approximate time of mixing for the drill – 3-5 minutes, for manual mixing – 5-7 minutes.

3. Coating Application
Use soft brush with long natural bristles if surface area is less than 100 m2 or has complex surface geometry. If the surface area is more than 100m2.use airless sprayer. The product can be applied at ambient temperature from -30C to +50C.

Apply 2-3 crossing layers not more 0,5 mm each with intermediate drying “tack free” 0.5-2h depending on the ambient temperature. Concrete, asbestos-cement, plastered, sand-cement surfaces three layers should be applied in 3 layers.

3. Coating Application

If the surface area is more than 100m2.use airless sprayer. The product can be applied at ambient temperature from -30C to +50C. Apply 2-3 crossing layers not more 0,5 mm each with intermediate drying “tack free” 0.5-2h depending on the ambient temperature. Concrete, asbestos-cement, plastered, sand-cement surfaces three layers should be applied in 3 layers. 

Natural drying of the coatings at temperature (20 ± 2) ° C for up to 2 hours, while operating full cure occurs upon heating. DFT is determined by engineering calculation. The next layer can be applied only after complete drying of the previous layer, i.e. in 2 hours at ambient temperature. To form a coat approx. 0.5 mm thick (optical thickness) three-five passes of sprayer or brush are required. Thicker layer is prohibited, as this results in development of dampproof film on its surface which prevent complete evaporation of moisture from the material and this will lead to loss of heat-transfer properties and coating deformation.

Application on the surface with temperature more than +50C is not advisable as there will be evaporation of the product organic solvents Coat thickness of 0,5 mm can be determined with

1) wet film comb, thickness gauge,

2) ProTerm consumption rate of 0,5 l for 1m2 (approximate consumption by brush on flat surface. It depends on the surface type and method of application)

3) The value of material optical thickness (the underlay must not be shown through the material).

Thermotechnical calculation or recommendations of certified regional manufacturer’s agencies shall be used to determine the total coat thickness and the number of coats.

4. ProTerm Handling Safety Measures

4.1
– overall , safety shoes ;
– rubber gloves
– cotton gloves;
– chemical goggles
– respirator for breath protection

4.2 In case of skin contact, use skin cleanser and wash with water.

4.3 The insulation material must be stored in a closed well ventilated Fire and explosion safe rooms

4.4 Application work must be carried out in strict compliance with the requirements of health and safety, environmental and fire safety in accordance with Safety in construction, Fire safety, Painting works, etc.
