Application instruction of energy saving liquid thermal insulation
!!!DO NOT FREEZE!!!
PROTERM STANDARD can be applied indoor and outdoor on UNBREATHABLE SURFACES as metal, plastic, tile, glass with the working temperature from -60°C to +180°C in order to save energy and provide safety.
1. Surface preparation.
a) Remove dirt, rust, dust, old paint, loose matter, etc. from the surface. Pay particular attention to removal of fungus-like loose rust that will detach from metal together with the coat once KORUND is applied. Use wire brushes, sand disks or grinder to remove rust from metal surface; keep working on the loose rust until the metal shines. Treat the rust-free surface with rust solvent and let stay for 2 hours if required. New metal surfaces can require removal of conserving agents. The prepared surface must be dry (without condensate) and free from loose, oily or greasy matter, and should not be excessively plastic.
b) If PROTERM is to be used on ferrous metal surfaces with operating temperature up to +150ºС, the surface must undergo preliminary dust removal and degreasing; either cover the surface with PROTERM ANTICOR (more preferable) or treat with rust solvent «MAGNIT-zink»
c)If the coating is to be applied on nonferrous metal surface, use mechanical means to remove shine, dust, grease, then treat with rust solvent «MAGNIT-zink»
2. Preparation of Insulating Coating
PROTERM STANDARD is ready to use. Prior to application stir up and add some distilled water as required. Amount of water depends on the temperature of the base surface, humidity and further operation. When the material is applied on surface with temperature range +7°С…+80°С, the amount of water added to the material should not exceed 5% for brushing and 3% for mechanical application (by airless sprayer).
When the material is applied on surface with temperature above +80°С, the temperature first has to be reduced by few layers of PROTERM diluted with 40-50% of distilled water ( please consult the local representative office for more details). Splitting into fractions in the containers is possible in case of extended storage period.
AVOID EXCESSIVE AGITATION!!!
If drill is used, the maximum permissible agitating rate is 150 rpm.
Use vertical travel of the blade to immerse the stiffened part into liquid, switch on the drill and start to rotate the blade slowly to mix the lumps with the liquid. Keep mixing until the product becomes sour cream-like. Approximate time of mixing for the drill 4-7 minutes, for manual mixing 7-10 minutes. If condensate is supposed to be removed, the material shall be mixed with minimum amount of water and with maximum interlayer interval.
3. Coating Application.
Use soft brush with long natural bristles to apply PROTERM on small surfaces or areas of irregular shape. Surface of 100 m2 and more can be coated by airless sprayer with air pressure up to 60-80!!! bar.
Application conditions: surface temperature is +5ºС…+150ºС, avoid working in humid weather: the material dissolves with water and will not dry. Ambiance temperature is above +5ºС. Humidity is less than 85%
Complete curing time of 1 mm coating is 24 hours minimum. The next layer can be applied only after 24 hours at a room temperature after complete drying of the previous layer. To form a coat approx. 1 mm thickness (optical thickness) you need three passes of sprayer or brush. Thicker application is prohibited because it forms damp-proof film on its surface that prevent complete evaporation of moisture and this will lead to loss of heat-transfer properties and coating deformation.
ATTENTION!!! Application on the surface with +80-90 ºС and above: the material has to be diluted with water. It is recommended to use PROTERM diluted 40-50% with water as a primer. The layer thickness should not be more than 0.5 mm within 24 hours. The hotter surface the more water is required. Apply the diluted material with quick and short strokes to obtain a very thin coat. The drying time of every coat is 1 hour minimum. Keep applying such coats until the material stops boiling on the surface and then let it dry for 24 hours. After 24 hours material has to be applied less diluted (5-10% of water).
The application on the surface temperature below +90ºС: quantity of water should be 5-10% of PROTERM volume.
To determine coat thickness of 0.4-0.5 mm, you can use thickness gauge, material consumption rate 0.5 l per 1 m2 or the value of material optical thickness (the underlay must not show through the material). The material consumption rate depends on the surface type and method of application.
The total coat thickness and number of coats can be calculated. Please refer to your regional representative.
4. PROTERM STANDARD Handling Safety Measures
4.1 Personal Protection
The product is safe under normal conditions. No respirators are required for work in a well-ventilated premise or outdoors. Use standard respirators in a premise without ventilation. Protect eyes with chemical goggles. Ensure access to flow water for eyes washing. Use chemical protective gloves and protective clothes to protect skin.
4.2 Emergency Conditions
In case of eyes contact, immediately wash the eyes with flow water for 15 minutes. If irritation persists, consult the doctor. In case of skin contact, wash the skin with soap and water. Wash dirty clothes prior to re-use. In case of inhaling, go to open air. The product is nonflammable in liquid state. In case of burning of structures with coating applied, use water, foam, dry chemicals or carbon dioxide for firefighting. Use any absorbent material like sand, soil, etc. to remove spills of the product.
5. Storage and transportation
Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture in airtight containers with ambiance temperature less than 60C, humidity 85%, far from direct sunlight.
Transportation can be provided by any means of transport between 7 and 30C far from direct sunlight. Packing should provide the right placement of the buckets and their safety. The material will be spoiled in case if the bucket is broken.
In case of noncompliance with application and storage instructions, the manufacturer shall not be liable for the quality of coating.
